French Goat's Cheese Salad
Part 1 of 3 for FRENCH BISTRO WEEK!!
From time to time, I like to dedicate a week of recipes to a theme. And this week, it’s French Bistro Week!!
So today’s Goat’s Cheese Salad is part of a classic 3 course French bistro menu. I’m particularly excited about the main dish I’ll be sharing on Wednesday. It’s one of the greatest, most iconic French dishes of all time!
–––-
This Warm Goat's Cheese Salad is a classic starter found in bistros all across France. Called Salade de Chêvre Chaud, it stars goat's cheese medallions that are golden on the outside and oozing on the inside, sitting on a bed of lettuce and tomato littered with bacon, walnuts and pine nuts, drizzled with balsamic dressing.
One of the most delicious salads France has on offer, right here for you!

6 Tasty Sandwiches from Jacques Pepin | Today's Gourmet | KQED
If you've graduated from grilled cheese and you're looking for a sandwich glow-up, you've come to the right place. Jacques Pepin kicks off this episode of Today's Gourmet by teaching us how to make our own bread (1:00) for a crusty and delightful open-face sandwich made with tomato, olives, cilantro, olive oil, and parmesan (7:05). Next you'll learn how to make your own sun dried tomatoes (10:17) to use in Jacques' eggplant sandwich (12:57). Then Jacques recreates his friend James Beard's signature onion sandwich (15:47), a round sandwich with basted edges rolled in a chopped parsley mixture.
Jacques' pan bagnat is the Godzilla of sandwiches (18:04) using an entire loaf of bread and layered with tomato, green pepper, olives, basil, anchovy, garlic, cucumber, onion, and cracked pepper. Pan bagnat means bathed bread and this sandwich is finished by being wrapped, pressed, and stored in the fridge overnight to marinate in its juices.
The episode wraps up with a salmon and hot pepper sandwich (22:39) and a sweet jam sandwich served on pound cake and cut into cute shapes that kids will love. (23:06)

Learn #HowToMake: #TunaTomatoTart, a simple yet super delicious #PuffPastry dish!
I wanted to play with some puff pastry for a light lunch - but since I didn't want to turn the oven on, this is a great toaster oven recipe to the rescue!
Puff pastry is hands-down one of my favorite pre-made bread-y things. I've always been a pie rather than cake girl - I absolutely love flaky pastry things! These days, it's so easy to find it premade at your local grocery store in the frozen section. It's roughly the same price as those croissants that come in a cardboard tube that you pop to open, and it's infinitely flakier. I seriously recommend keeping some puff pastry in your freezer.
Tuna, tomato, and cheese makes this closer to a fancy-fied open-face tuna melt; it's absolutely delicious. Once you get your hands on some puff pastry, you can totally make your own version – do it like a pizza or a cheesesteak – the possibilities for savory pies is endless, and I promise it'll be a mini-upgrade for those date nights or self-care nights. Perfect with a beer – or in my case, a ginger cinnamon iced tea.
