How To make Welsh Cakes (Bakestone Recipes)
8 oz Plain flour
1 ts Baking powder
1/4 ts Mized spice
2 oz Butter or margarine
2 oz Lard
3 oz Granulated sugar
2 oz Raisins (or currants)
1 Egg, beaten
3 tb Milk
Sift the flour, baking powder and spice into a mizing bowl. Cut the fat into the flour, and rub it to a breadcrumb-like consistency; then mix in the sugar and raisins. Mix in the egg, and sufficient milk to make a stiff dough. Roll out on a floured board to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 3 inch rounds. Bake on a hot greased bakestone until golden brown, about 4 minutes on each side. * Variation: "Teisen Dinca" -- Make up the Welsh Cake dough adding 6 oz peeled and grated cooking apples before adding the egg. Mix to a stiff dough, adding milk if necessary. Roll out, cut into rounds and cook on the bakestone as for Welsh Cakes. Serve hot with butter, golden syrup, or honey.

How to make Jam Splits Welsh Cakes
I completely adore Welsh cakes and love this modern spin on them, filled with homemade strawberry jam. A taste from home and a treat that I make every year for March 1st to commemorate St David's Day. I am originally from Wales and love to make Welsh cakes throughout the year and thought I would share this easy dairy free Jam Splits recipe with you. You can find the printable recipe on my website here:
Welsh cakes are also known as pice bach and are usually baked either on a griddle or bakestone. They are so delicious when they are fresh off the griddle and dusted with sugar. And even better when you cut them in half and spread homemade jam on them. You seriously need to try these.
My traditional Welsh cakes recipe and a little bit more about Wales can also be found on my website:

Welsh Cakes Recipe Demonstration - Joyofbaking.com
Recipe here: Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Welsh Cakes. Welsh Cakes are very similar to a scone, only instead of baking them in the oven they are cooked on a griddle. Welsh Cakes have a lovely golden brown outer crust, yet inside they are wonderfully soft.

Welsh cakes | Nosalty
