3 c Sifted all-purpose flour 1 tb Butter 2 ts Baking powder 3/4 c (to 1c) Warm milk 1 ts Salt 2 tb Melted butter 1 ts Sugar Fat for deep frying Combine dry ingredients; cut in butter. Add enough warm milk to make a soft dough, easy to handle. Knead on floured board until dough is very smooth and soft but elastic. Do not use a lot of extra flour. Divide dough into 6-8 balls and brush the tops with melted butter. Cover and let stand 30-45 minutes. Pat out each ball into a round, 5 or 6 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick. Fry in deep fat (preheated to 365 degrees). Dough should rise immediately to surface. Cook until brown on one side, turn, and brown on other side being careful to not pierce crust. Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot. Mrs. Bernard Mahon -----

Navajo Taco with Fry Bread
Navajo Tacos with Indian Fry Bread is so good and definitely filling. The fry bread is soft and tender on the inside with a crispy outer crust and can be topped with everything from taco meat, and chili, or fruit, honey, and cinnamon sugar.
Ingredients 4 cups all purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/3 cup oil (I used olive oil) 2 to 3 cups hot water oil for frying (I use canola)
Instructions In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt and lightly mix. Add the oil and gradually add the water mixing as you pour until a dough forms and the sides of the bowl are clean. Sprinkle some flour onto the counter and knead the dough for about five minutes until the dough is smooth and springs back when your finger is pressed in. Cover and let dough rest on counter for 30 minutes. Pinch off some dough enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Press dough into a round shape by either using your hands or a rolling pin. Drop dough into hot oil and fry a couple of minutes on each side until golden brown. (Make sure oil is not too hot or the outside will be golden but the inside will not be done.)
