Made with simple ingredients yet pack an awesome flavor from the sweet-savory teriyaki sauce!
Tofu Balls:
500g firm tofu, drained, pressed, and crumbled
1 medium carrot, minced
1/3 cup spring onions, chopped finely
1/2 tbsp salt (or to taste)
1/2 tbsp ground black pepper
1/3 cup cornstarch (or more if the mixture doesn't hold into a ball)
Teriyaki Sauce:
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp mirin
1/2 tbsp grated ginger
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
cornstarch slurry (mix 1 cup water + 1 tbsp cornstarch)
Yield: 20 balls
1 In a large bowl, combine all ingredients for the tofu balls. Mix until well combined. Check if the mixture holds its shape. If not, add cornstarch about a tablespoon at a time and mix again. Form into small balls.
2 Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the balls in a single layer. Spray the balls with cooking spray. Air fry the tofu balls for 20 to 25 minutes at 200 Celsius or 395 Fahrenheit until golden brown. Flipping halfway.
3 Meanwhile, make the teriyaki sauce: Heat a pan and add in a bit of oil. Saute ginger until fragrant, then add in the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the cornstarch slurry and let simmer. Once the sauce has thickened
4 Once the tofu balls have cooked, remove from the air fryer. Drizzle the teriyaki sauce on the tofu balls or you can add the tofu balls into the pan with the teriyaki sauce and leave to cook for about a minute or 2 until the balls have been completely coated with the sauce.
