-Maggie Herrick FTVF26A 4 c DRY brEAD CRUMBS 1 ts PEPPER 1/4 c CANOLA OIL 1 tb ONION POWDER 2 ts SALT (OR OMIT) 1 tb GARLIC POWDER 1 tb PAPRIKA 1 tb BELL'S SEASON'G 2 ts GROUND CELERY SEED Put the dry crumbs in a large bowl and mix the oil in thoroughly with a whisk or pastry blender. (When fully mixed through, you get a negligible amount per serving when coating anything.) Then mix in the rest of the ingredients. Use your imagination. You could make a 1/2 recipe and use Italian seasoning instead of Bells; add sesame or poppy seeds, lemon pepper, etc. It does need that little oil to stick to things and brown properly. The original recipe I adapted it from used much more oil. At least there is no MSG or other chemicals or preservatives in this. I keep mine in the freezer. It takes 45 min at 375 degrees to brown. DIY Better Than Shake ‘N Bake Seasoned Meat Coating!
This is a remake of my vert FIRST ever YouTube video that I made back in August of 2014! The quality was not great, I had no mic or lighting. LOL So I thought it might be time for a new version. I hope that you will try this! It is a common request at my house for chicken thighs, legs, tenderloins and pork chops. I hope it will become a staple at your house!
The recipe below is for 3 cups of breadcrumbs. In the video, I quadrupled the recipe. The recipe below is enough for at least 3-4 meals depending on the size of your family. I covered 6 bone in, skin on, chicken thighs with approximately 1 cup of the mix.
•1 1/2 cups of regular or Italian style bread crumbs •1 1/2 cups of Panko crumbs • 1/4 cup cooking oil Whatever kind that you normally use. Sunflower, Canola, Vegetable. (You can use Olive, though it personally not my favorite in this particular recipe) •1 Tablespoon salt •1 Tablespoon onion powder •1 Tablespoon paprika •2 teaspoons sugar (Optional you may also use Splenda) • 1 teaspoon garlic powder •1 teaspoon black pepper •1/4 to ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (red pepper) •2-3 teaspoons parsley flakes •1 teaspoon basil •1 teaspoon oregano
Optional: (about 1 teaspoon) •Cajun Seasoning (Click here to see how I make mine: )
•Hedy's House Seasoning (Click here to see how I make mine: ) •Old Bay Seasoning
*Adjust all seasonings to taste
Mix until thoroughly incorporated. Store in an air tight container. Mason jars, Food prep containers or even the empty bread crumb containers work great. It will keep for up to 3 months (Much longer if stored in the freezer).
To use with chicken: Bake at 400 degrees (preheated) for 22-28 minutes for breast tenderloins(depending in size of your chicken) For In bone chicken bake for 45-55 mins
To use with pork chops: Bake at 400 degrees (preheated) for 24-28 minutes (depending in size of your pork chops)
