1 1/3 c Sugar 1 1/3 c Shortening 4 Eggs 2 ts Vanilla 4 c Flour 1 ts Salt 4 ts Baking powder Cream sugar and shortening together until creamy. Add vanilla and eggs, mixing well. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking powder. Add wet ingredients, mixing well. Place teaspoonfuls of dough on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 F. for 10 - 12 minutes or until just barely browned. Let cool on cookie sheet about 1 minute and then dip top of each cookie into a bowl of sugar, coating the entire top. Place on cooling rack to cool completely. Recipe from Ruth Burlingame -----

Vintage Baby Ruth Cookies
I have had this vintage 1940's recipe for Baby Ruth Cookies saved for a long while. I finally got to try them out and I am so glad I did.They are delicious!
Here is the recipe I followed: 1/2 cup softened butter 3/4 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp vanilla 2 Baby Ruth bars cut into small pieces (Theses are optional- I added 2 tbls mini milk chocolate chips)
Cream butter and sugar together until smooth. Add in egg. Stir in rest of the ingredients. Chill for 30 minutes. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!
