How To make My Grandmother's Deep Dish Apple Pie
5 c Apples, to 6 cups
-pared, cut into sm. pcs. 3/4 c Light brown sugar
2 tb Flour
1/4 ts Cinnamon
1 tb Lemon juice
1 tb Butter; or more
1 Pie crust; unbaked
Toss apple pieces, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl until apple pieces are well coated. Place them in a deep pie plate or caserole. Dot with butter. Top with a pie crust, bringing edges over sides of dish and pressing them with a fork. Prick crust in several places with a fork. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until done. Grandma’s Apple Pie:
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ pounds of apples (I used granny smith)
- 1 ¼ cups of brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoons of salt
- 3 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1 ½ lemons ( ½ for putting in water, 1 for putting on apples)
- 3 ½ tablespoons of cornstarch (this will be cut in half, ½ for putting on apples, ½ for - putting on sauce)
- 3 tablespoons of water
- 3 ½ tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 2 premade pie crusts (1 for the shell, 1 for the top)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- ⅛ cups of sugar (for putting on top of the pie)
Peel and slice apples. Keep the apples in lemon water as you go. To make lemon water, take ½ of a lemon and juice it into however much water you want. It doesn’t matter how much water it is as long as the apples are covered by it.
Preheat oven to 400º F.
Take the apples out of the water and mix them with the brown sugar, lemon juice, salt, cinnamon, and the remaining lemons that you will take the juice out of. Let it soak up the juices for half an hour, mixing every 10 minutes.
Strain the apples and take the strained juice. Simmer the juice on low heat.
Mix the cornstarch and water. Put that into the juice, and stir. Bring it to a boil and turn off. Mix in the butter and pour it onto the apples. Mix together.
Put it onto the baking dish that already has a pie crust on it. Put the other one on top, trim the excess dough, fold the crust under the rim, and crimp the edges. Brush on the egg, and sprinkle sugar on the top.
Bake for 60 minutes. Once it is out of the oven wait one hour until serving. (Optional) Plate with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce.

first we are going to pre heat the oven to 425 f and place the pie for 20 minutes then after 20 minutes we are going to lower the temperature to 375f for 30 minutes , once done we will let rest for 2hrs.

4 sprinkles of sugar
