1 c Boiling water 1/2 c Packed brown sugar 1/2 c Molasses 1/4 c Lard 1 1/2 c All-purpose flour 1 ts Baking soda 1 ts Ground cinnamon 1/2 ts Ground allspice 1/2 ts Ground cloves 1/4 ts Salt 1 Beaten egg 1/2 c Raisins In mixing bowl pour boiling water over sugar, molasses, and lard. Stir together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt; stir into molasses mixture. Add egg; beat till smooth. Stir in raisins. Pour into greased and floured 9x92-inch baking pan. Bake at 375 till done, 30 to 35 minutes. -----

A classic gingerbread cake recipe. This old fashioned recipe make a moist, airy cake that's great for snacking and is delicious with a brown sugar or chocolate sauce. Easy to make and works every time.
Old Fashioned Gingerbread •2 cups flour •1 ½ teaspoon baking soda •½ teaspoon salt •½ cup sugar •1 teaspoon ginger •1 teaspoon cinnamon •½ cup soft butter •¾ cup Crosby’s Fancy Molasses •1 egg •1 cup boiling water 1.Grease and flour an 8”x8” square pan (or line the pan with parchment paper.) 2.Sift together dry ingredients in a large bowl. 3.Add the butter, molasses and egg and beat for two minutes or 300 strokes by hand. (This is a very old recipe…it actually says that.) 4.Add the boiling water. 5.Beat for another two minutes and turn into prepared pan. 6.Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched.
