A Wee Taste of Ulster-Scots (Butter and Soda Farls)
Join celebrity chef Paula McIntyre MBE as she demonstrates how to bake traditional Ulster soda farls.
In this video, Paula uses buttermilk which is a by-product of the butter she has made to bake three different types of soda bread. They include a traditional soda using plain flour, an 'Indian' soda using cornmeal, and treacle soda; all are cut into 'farls' (the Ulster-Scots word for quarter or quadrant) before being cooked on a traditional griddle over a turf fire.

How To Make Simple Soda Bread For Any Larp Genre
In this video, Maxx shows you how to make simple Irish Soda Bread from 4 ingredients. It's a fantastic bread that is very easy to make, travels well and fits any larp genre. Plus it's tasty too!
You'll Need:
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp Salt
3/4 Cup Buttermilk
Mix it into a loose dough, form into a ball and cut an X on top.
Place on pan in oven at 425 F for about 30 minutes.
This will make the amount in the video, which I consider a 1-2 person serving.
There are tons of ways to vary the recipe by adding to it and substituting other items and it can be baked in many different ways as well. Because it's very cheap to create, I suggest experimenting and finding a variant you like.
Some simple suggestions would be to add food coloring, chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, sugar, beer, cooked bacon, seeds, cut a different pattern on top of it, do an eggwash on it or anything that makes it fit your character, setting or genre.
If you make this recipe, or create your own, please let me know and share a photo with me on social media or email @larpmix
