-savers Or other colorful hard candy Recipe by: St. Louis Post-Dispatch 8/5/96 In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a large mixer bowl, beat butter and shortening together. Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy; beat in egg and extract. With mixer at low speed, gradually blend in flour mixture just until well-mixed. Turn dough out onto a sheet of plastic wrap, cover with another sheet, flatten into a disc and chill until firm, 15 to 30 minutes. While the dough is chilling, give each child a few 3-by-5-inch index cards. Cut each card to resemble a pair of sunglasses (just the frames, not the temples); set patterns aside. Divide Life Savers by colors. Place each color in a freezer-weight zipper-sealed plastic bag and crack coarsely with a tin can or meat mallet. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place about half the dough on a surface lightly sprinkled with flour. Sprinkle dough lightly with additional flour and roll to about 1/4-inch thick. Lay sunglasses patterns on dough and cut around. Cut holes for "lenses" out of each cookie, leaving "frame" at least 1/2-inch wide all around. Lift cookies onto a lightly greased, foil-lined
baking sheet. Spoon crushed candy into lens holes, filling level with top of cookie. Bake 7 to 9 minutes; let cool completely on sheets. Carefully -----

Exploding Chocolate Nearly Blinds 19-Year-Old Student
Nineteen-year-old Samantha D’Aprile was using a double boiler to melt chocolate for her cookies. However, she didn't realize super-hot steam pressure was building up. Suddenly, chocolate exploded everywhere and the scolding steam went right into her eyes. D’Aprile received a grim prognosis. Her doctors were fearful the Chicago college freshman would be blind. Miraculously, five days later, D’Aprile was able to see again.

Fifty Shades of Grey Vodka-Pomegranate Cocktail Recipe
West Hollywood's The Church Key shows us its sultry recipe for a vodka-pomegranate cocktail inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey. Its stunning creation involves a siphon and a foam top. We tweaked the recipe just a tad so you can still achieve a frothy layer without the fancy equipment. Now go ahead and shake one (or more) at home to loosen up before heading out to the theater.
Pink Lips
Adapted from The Church Key
INGREDIENTS
1 large egg white
1 ounce lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1 1/2 ounces pear-flavored vodka, like Grey Goose La Poire
1/2 ounce pomegranate juice
Ice
Pomegranate seeds, for garnish
1 ounce Champagne
DIRECTIONS
In a cocktail shaker, combine egg white, lime juice, simple syrup, vodka, and pomegranate juice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
