Making / Canning Applesauce, Apple Pie Filling & Apple Syrup
Lots of people have asked how I preserve our apples outside of cold storage, so in this video I share how I water bath can applesauce and apple pie filling. We use our scraps to make and can apple syrup. These are basic recipes that have been in my family for generations and hopefully continue in generations to come.
The apple syrup is kind of a bonus as it is made from the apple scraps that most people either feed to livestock, compost or just through away. Its a quick and easy recipe that can easily substitute maple syrup but is so much easier to make and cans extremely well.
The full recipe for the applesauce/pie filling is on our web page at
The Apple Cinnamon Syrup recipe is from the Ball - Blue Book guide to preserving.
*NOTE: I use the same recipe to make my pie filling. The only difference is I cut the apples into slices after peeling and coring and do not mash them.
