1/3 c Shortening 1 c Sugar 1 Egg 1 ts Vanilla 1 1/3 c Cake flour; unsifted 1 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Salt 1/2 c Cocoa 1 c Buttermilk Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat thoroughly at high speed. Mix flour, baking soda and salt. Sift together once or twice then mix into cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk (flour mixture first and last) using low to medium speed on mixer, just enough to mix well. Pour into 8x8" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour. -----

20th BIRTHRDAY VLOG || WW1/WW2 Mayonnaise Chocolate Cake, 1940's Suit, Picnic Hello everyone! So in today's video I have a vlog from my 20th birthday. A few days before my birthday I made a WW1 and WWII double chocolate cake recipe. Its strange because in this recipe you use mayonnaise instead of eggs, but the outcome is good with the chocolate on top and also I put some ice cream beside it. :) This is a very easy cake to make. We also had a lovely time outdoors with a family picnic.
With WWI & WWII rations and a short of food supple, women come up with creative recipes. This is one of them.
Just keep in mind that I doubled the recipe to make the cake bigger.
Double Chocolate Cake Recipe :
2 Cups Flour 1 Cup Sugar 1 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder 1 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda 4 Table Spoon Cocoa 1 Cup Cold Water 1 Cup Mayonnaise 2 tsp. Vanilla (optional)
Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth. Place in a greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes clean. (Serves 18)
Chocolate Frosting :
1 Cup Sugar 1/4 Cup Cocoa 1/4 Cup Milk 1/2 Cup Butter
Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Poke holes in the cake with a fork and pour the hot frosting over the cake.
