Easy Spam Salt Removal | Better than Bacon
△This video is all about:
1. How to remove salt from Spam.
2. How to marinate and cook Spam in a carbon steel pan.
By the way, I simply love SPAM if it is prepared properly!
I just added a link to those mixing bowls I used:
I purchased my Ballarini carbon steel pan from Amazon:
I found the 11-inch model worked the best because it was big enough to contain almost all the spam. There were about 4-5 pieces of spam I added after the majority was removed from the pan.

I suppose this is more of a techniques than a recipe. Take whatever potatoes you want. Peel them, or don't. Cut them into fry-like shapes, being sure to get roughly equal thickness, and cut them maybe twice as thick as you want them — they'll shrink a lot during cooking. I do one large Russet potato per person. Boil them until you're afraid they're going to fall apart — I do about eight minutes. Gently drain them and lay them on a pan wide enough to hold them all in a single layer. Drizzle on enough oil to thoroughly coat all the pieces. Shake the pan to coat the pieces and get the fries evenly distributed.
Roast at 450ºF. Check on them after 45 minutes — add more oil if they look dry, and move around any pieces that seem to be cooking unevenly. Roast them some more until they're brown and crispy, maybe another 45 minutes. Be careful not to overcook them — very brown will taste burned. You can pull them when they're still a little floppy, because they will harden as they cool. The ones I made in the video are just a bit overcooked.
Place kitchen towel or a couple layers of paper towel in a large bowl, and dump the fries in. Let the towel soak up the excess oil, and then whip it out. Season the fries in the bowl and then toss. I use coarse salt, pepper, garlic powder, chopped cilantro and grated parmesan.
MY COOKING PHILOSOPHY: I don't like weighing or measuring things if I don't have to, and I don't like to be constantly checking a recipe as I cook. I don't care that volume is a bad way of measuring things — it's usually easier. I like for a recipe to get me in the ballpark, and then I like to eyeball and improvise the rest. If you're like me, my goal with these videos is to give you a sense of how the food should look and feel as you're cooking it, rather than give you a refined formula to reproduce.
Mistakes Everyone Makes When Cooking Spam
Who doesn't love Spam? After all, it's basically savory canned ham, and it can be incorporated into both breakfast meals and dinner entrees in a snap. Flavorful and versatile, Spam has become a beloved American culinary staple, and while it's difficult to screw up the salty, precooked meat, there are definitely right and wrong ways to take it from the tin to the table.
While enjoying your Spam more or less comes down to preference, you might not have even given thought to how you could be leveling the stuff up. With that in mind, let's take a look at some mistakes everyone makes when cooking Spam.

AIR FRYER SPAM SANDWICHES AND FRIES | Richard in the kitchen
In this video I show y'all how to make air fryer spam sandwiches and fries. Spam is celebrating its 75 year existence. It's just a little bit older than me. I grew up eating fried Spam cooked in a skillet to make sandwiches on white bread with plenty of mayo. Crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Today, I'll be frying this up in the air fryer along with some Spam fries. It's easy to do and for those who like Spam. sooooo delicious!
Shopping List:
Servings: 1
1 (14 ounce) can of Original Spam
Cheddar slices (optional)
2 slices of buttered and toasted white bread (or your favorite bread)
Mayo (or your favorite condiment)
Cooking spray
Directions:
Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Pre-heat the air fryer on 390 for 3 minutes.
CAREFULLY open the can of Spam. The edges of the lid are very very sharp.
Turn the can upside down and shake in a downward motion and the Spam will slide right out.
Spam is packaged with a gelatin. You'll want to rinse that off under cool water.
Once rinsed, slice lengthwise two slices about 1/2 inch each. Slice the remainder of the Spam into French fry shapes.
Place the Spam slices and fries into the pre-heated air fryer basket and air fry on 390 for about 5-6 minutes each side, flipping halfway through.
NOTE: ALL AIR FRYERS COOK DIFFERENTLY SO COOKING TIMES MAY VARY. JUST KEEP AN EYE ON YOURS
If adding cheese, when the Spam has finished cooking, turn off the air fryer, put the slice of cheese on top of the two slices of Spam, return to the air fryer for about 1 minute. The residual heat will melt the cheese.
Toast the bread in a skillet with butter then add mayo to the inside slices of toasted bread and add the Spam. Serve with the Spam fries with ketchup for dipping.
Enjoy!
