How To make Afelia (Braised Pork with Coriander)
Ingredients

pork fillet, leg, or loin
1/4
cup
butter
500
grams
new potatoes, peeled
250
grams
small mushrooms

cup
red wine
1
salt, to taste
1
pepper, to taste, freshly ground
2
teaspoons
coriander seeds, crushed
Directions:
Cut pork into approximately 3 cm (1-1/4 inch) pieces leaving some fat on meat as this is desirable.
Heat half the butter in a heavy based pan and brown potatoes. Remove and keep aside.
Add remaining butter and brown pork on each side, push to side of pan.
Trim and clean mushrooms and fry quickly in pan next to meat. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to low.
Pour in wine, add salt and pepper to taste and place potatoes on top.
Sprinkle with coriander seeds, cover pan with lid and simmer over low heat for 45 minutes or until pork and potatoes are tender.
Serve with a tossed green salad.

One of the dishes you can try is aphelia, a local traditional food usually served with various side dishes. You taste it and your taste buds explode with the warm aroma and tenderness of the meat.
Afelia is a traditional and delicious Cypriot dish that is easy to prepare at home. This is pork marinated in dry red wine with coriander seeds. Wine and coriander are a typical combination in Cypriot cuisine. In today's video we will prepare this unusual dish according to an authentic, traditional recipe.
Ingredients:
• 500 g pork neck
• 350 ml of dry red wine
• 1 tbsp. coriander seed
• 0.5 tsp. ground coriander
• 3 tbsp. olive oil
• salt and pepper
• microgreen for decoration
*according to the recipe, it is necessary to marinate the meat for at least 4 hours, and it is better to leave it overnight

600g pork shoulder steaks
300g button mushrooms, whole
4 slices bacon
2 large onions, sliced
3 tablespoons olive oil, for frying
2 tablespoons coriander seeds, crushed
2 glasses Red dry wine
2 bay leaves
½ teaspoon ground cumin
Salt and ground black pepper to season
Marinade ingredients
Place the pork in a glass bowl with the wine, Coriander seeds, bay leaves, cumin, Salt and black pepper, mix and cover with cling film and let it marinate overnight.
Afelia - Cypriot pork in wine and coriander
Hello. Afelia is a traditional Cypriot dish of pork marinated in coriander and red wine. You can either use a lean cut of meat like I have and cook it in under 30 mins, or a shoulder cut and cooked for over an hour, preferably in the oven. Either way Is delicious.
My yiayia used to make this dish so I have fond memories of it.
It is proof you can get a tasty dish with few ingredients. I have also included the link for my pourgouri recipe which is the traditional accompaniment to this dish.

Ingredients

Crushed coriander seeds
2 cups red dry wine
olive oil
Cumin (optional)
salt and pepper
Directions
1. In a large bowl stir together the pork, coriander seeds,cumin and wine. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
2. Pour the marinated pork into a pot and bring to a boil over high heat.
3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, covered for about 1 hour or until most of the liquid has evaporated.
4. Add the oil to the pot along with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Stir and cook for another 5 more minutes.
