Vegan Lentil Burger Recipe
These vegan lentil burgers were highly requested. If you watch our vlog channel, you know my husband, Eddie, loves these! He's always asking me to make him another batch.
I always just eyeballed this recipe and it came out great each time. Sometimes I switch it up and add different things, like different spices, ketchup, bbq sauce, sriracha sauce. etc.
Feel free to play around with the spices, sauces, etc. Also, if you like some spice, add some red chili flakes, cayenne, or black pepper.
Ingredients
-1 cup green lentils
-1 & 1/2 cup red split lentils
-1/2 cup bread crumbs
-1/2 ground flaxseed meal
-1 cup raw walnut pieces
-1/2 cup marinara sauce
-1/2 cup salsa
-2 tbsp whole grain dijon mustard
-3 tsp liquid aminos or coconut aminos
-1/3 cup nutritional yeast
-2 tbsp Trader Joe's 21 seasoning salute (or any spice blend)
-1 tbsp garlic powder
-1 tbsp onion powder
-1 tbsp cumin powder
-1 tbsp chili powder
*Alternatives*
-Don't have or want to use breadcrumbs? Use oats instead. Go with 1/2-3/4 cup.
-Don't have or want to use walnuts? Use any nut or seed.
-Don't have marinara sauce? Just use 1 cup salsa.
-Don't have salsa? Just use 1 cup marinara sauce.
-Swap out the marinara sauce for some ketchup, bbq sauce, and or sriracha sauce.
-Use any herbs and spices you like.
-Try adding some dried cranberries.
*Instructions*
Cook lentils. Follow instructions. Cook well done, almost mushy. Works better when sticking together.
In a bowl mix together all ingredient.
Add lentils when they are cooked.
Stir and let sit for around 10 minutes, so it firms up a little and sticks together more.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Line a cookie sheet/baking pan with parchment paper.
Form burgers and lay out on tray.
Bake in oven for 45 minutes.
Take out. Gently flip. Bake for another 30 minutes.
Take out. Let cool for around 10 minutes. To firm up.
Enjoy!
Makes approx. 9-11 burgers/patties
