Realistic Cup of Applesauce Cake Tutorial
Hi Cake Friends!
I'm back with another realistic food cake tutorial! This time I'm showing you how I made a realistic snack cup of applesauce! In this tutorial I will be showing you how I made a food-safe mold from liquid silicone using Alumilite's Easy Mold Maker - If you prefer to use the plastic cup from the real applesauce to make your chocolate cup, please feel free to do so! I just loved all of the detail around the outside of the real applesauce cup so I decided to make a mold instead. In this tutorial I also teach you how I made the edible pull-back foil lid using modeling chocolate and silver edible dust! I hope you enjoy!!

Andy’s Red Hot Applesauce
Andy’s Red Hot Applesauce comes from the Aunt Bee’s Mayberry Cookbook which was originally published in 1960. This cookbook was compiled in 1991 and they included pictures of the characters in the show, with the recipes with the character names. A lot of these recipes came from people in Tennessee but also included recipes from the production members. They give you the homestyle small town feeling.
This recipe is pretty much your basic applesauce recipe with the flair of red hot candies.

Baked Apple Spice Donut Recipe
Mini Donut Pan:
Donut Batter
1 1/2 cups apple cider
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
2 tbsp melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
Spiced Sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
6 tbsp melted butter
Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease a mini donut baking pan. Set it aside.
To make the donut batter, simmer the apple cider in a small pot until the liquid has reduced and only 1/2 cup remains, about 20 to 25 minutes.
While the cider is reducing, in a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, baking powder, and salt. Set it aside.
In another large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk in the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Mix until smooth. Add half of the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix. Add the remaining flour mixture and mix. Whisk in the concentrated apple cider until the batter is smooth. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag. Pipe some of the batter into each donut mold, filling about halfway.
Bake the donuts until they are lightly golden and an inserted toothpick comes out clean, about 8 to 10 minutes.
While the donuts are in the oven, to make the spiced sugar, in a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
Once the donuts are cool enough to handle, dip each donut into the melted butter and roll it in the spiced sugar.
Serve immediately or once cooled completely, store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
