How to make a Kentucky Butter Cake. Who doesn't love a sweet & moist cake? Nobody, right. This Butter cake checks all boxes. This has to be one of my favorite cakes to make. If you are in charge of dessert this Thanksgiving this butter cake recipe fits that bill.

Betty's Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Cake
Betty demonstrates how to make a traditional Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Cake. This is a defining cake for Kentucky.
Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Cake
2 cups whole red candied cherries
2 cups bourbon whisky (I used Maker's Mark bourbon whisky.)
2 cups white seedless raisins
2 cups softened butter
2 cups sugar
2 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
8 eggs, separated
5 cups all-purpose flour
4 cups pecan halves
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
Combine cherries, raisins, and bourbon in a large mixing bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit in the refrigerator overnight. Drain fruits and reserve bourbon. Place butter in bowl of mixer and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add sugars gradually. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine ½ cup of the flour with the pecans. Mix the remaining flour with the baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Add 2 cups of the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix thoroughly. Add the reserved bourbon and the remainder of the flour mixture alternately, ending with flour. Beat well after each addition. In a separate bowl, mix egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Fold gently into cake batter. Add drained fruits and floured pecans to the cake batter; blend. Grease a 10-inch tube pan; line with waxed or parchment paper. Pour cake batter into pan with 1 space left at the top. Place in 275-degree (F) oven; bake about 2 to 2 ½ hours, or until a cake tester comes out clean. (Loaves will take less time.) Cool cake 2 to 3 hours in pan. Remove from pan. Wrap in cheesecloth soaked in bourbon and store in aluminum foil inside a covered container for several weeks. Maple & Orange Bourbon Cake
Our 12 Days of Christmas is off to a delicious start with this Maple & Orange Bourbon Cake????
Using local eggs, flour, maple syrup, and of course, Kentucky bourbon, this is a recipe you’re going to want to make for the holidays. Recipe below.
Maple & Orange Bourbon Cake
1/4 cup bourbon
2 tablespoons orange juice, fresh
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp orange zest
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
Optional: whipped cream or ice cream for topping!
1. Start by preheating the oven to 375F.
2. In a small saucepan, bring the bourbon and orange juice to a boil. Let simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove the bourbon mixture from heat, then add in the brown sugar, maple syrup, and orange zest. Whisk together and set to the side to cool for 5 minutes.
4. In the meantime, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small mixing bowl, then set aside.
5. In a 2-quart baking dish, melt the butter for about 30 seconds in the microwave (or alternatively, place in the warming oven to melt!).
6. Once melted, add in the regular sugar, milk, vanilla, and egg directly to the making dish. Whisk until smooth.
7. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the baking dish, mixing as you go until well combined.
8. Once the batter is clump-free, drizzle the bourbon mixture over the cake batter, allowing it to sink to the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle halved or chopped pecans over the cake batter.
9. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the top begins to brown.
Let cool 5-10 minutes. Top with orange zest whipped cream (as seen in the video) or ice cream. Enjoy!
