JCM makes Hardtack
in this video i explore a new recipe for hardtack and share my findings.
the recipe i used in this video:
-4 cups flour
-1 tablespoon salt
-1 cup water+ as u need it
cook at 250 F, 4 hours.
i know i didn't put in 1 and a half cups water, it was more like less than that.
Revised recipe, i was split open one from the last batch and the core is still rubbery, so when u cook yours, cook at 300 degrees for 4 hours. i did it like that with the very first 'biscuit' style hardtack and the cores were fully done. so i'm doing it at 300 from now on also. good luck!
Hardtack Biscuits to Store in Canning Jars by Using My Homemade Cutter
I became interested in making hardtack biscuits, so I searched out a recipe online and began making them with my young granddaughters. I thought about how I would store these and decided to use canning jars. They would certainly be airtight, so the hardtack should keep very well. At this point, I wanted a way to have the biscuits fit into the jars without breaking the edges, so I came up with this idea, using a floor drain cap.
