1 cup hominy grits 1 teaspoon salt 5 cups boiling water Cook slowly, 25 to 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Serve with gravy or with butter or with cream and sugar. Chill the leftovers, slice and fry in butter until golden brown.

One key to making 5-minute grits come out creamy and perfect is using a mixture of heavy cream and half n half to cook them in. Since I've started making my grits this way, I've never used just plain water again.
Try it! You just might switch over too!! You could also use milk but cream is better.

These easy grits from scratch are one of my favorite comfort foods EVER! This technique results in the most luscious, creamy texture without the need for any cream or for loads of butter.
