How To make Hillary Clinton's Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cook

1 1/2 c Flour
1 ts Salt
1 ts Baking soda
1 c Shortening
1 c Light brown sugar
Firmly packed 1/2 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla
2 Eggs
2 c Old fashioned rolled oats
12 oz Semisweet choclate chips
1. Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a large bowl. Set aside.
2. With an electric mixer beat together the shortening, sugars and
vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Add eggs, beating until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in flour mixture and oats. Stir in chocolate chips. 3. Drop batter by well-rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets
and bake in a preheated 350-degrwe oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden. 4. Let cool on sheets for 2 minutes before transfering to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes 7 1/2 dozen. I must like a larger cookie because this only made 4 1/2 dozen from me. They took 14 minutes to bake. -----

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1 whole egg
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chip (I used chocolate buttons)
1/4 cup sliced almonds

The cookie bake-off was conceived in 1992 from the campaign trail response Hillary Clinton gave to a reporter’s question about her desire to have her own separate career. Hillary stated, “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life.” In the spirit of light-hearted fun, Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton submitted cookie recipes to Family Circle.

Family Circle’s “First Lady’s Cookie Contest” was renamed “The Presidential Cookie Poll” in 2016, when the contest was no longer between two potential “first ladies.” A new title for the 28-year-old contest became necessary when Bill Clinton re-submitted “The Clinton Family Chocolate Chip Cookies” recipe against Melania Trump’s sugar cookie cut outs.
