How To make Ham Hocks and Lima Beans
1 pound dried lima beans*
4 ham hocks
halved
2 bay leaves
1 onion :
chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
2 cups chopped tomatoes
1 cup tomato sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon papper
salt :
to taste
*soaked overnight and drained Place beans in bottom of crock pot and add remain ing ingredients with 1 1/2 quarts of water. Cover and cook on high 2 hours. Tur n heat to low and cook, covered, 10 to 12 hours.

SLOW COOKER BUTTER BEANS WITH HAM HOCKS
In this video I show you how to make slow cooker butter beans. Simply seasoned butter beans slow cooked with ham hocks. A delicious southern meal that can be served alone or as a side with your favorite main dish.
Shopping List:
1 lb. large butter beans (also known as large lima beans)
1 lb. ham hocks
1/4 pound bacon
1/2 large onion, diced
4 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
1 tsp, dried parsley
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Salt to taste
1 stick butter
Directions:
Sort out any bad beans and discard.
Add beans to a large pot and cover with cold water about 3-4 inches above the beans. Soak 8 hours to overnight.
The next day, rinse the ham hocks and add to a large pot. Cover with cool water and bring to a high boil then reduce to medium low and simmer for 2-3 hours until the meat is falling off the bone.
Discard the bean soaking water and rinse.
Fry the bacon until crisp and set aside.
Sauté the onions in the same bacon pan for about 5-7 minutes until softened, adding a bit of salt. Sauté the garlic about 45 seconds. Set aside.
Add all ingredients and seasonings to the crock pot, stir and cook on high 2 hours then for 1 hour on low. Cook a bit longer if beans are not done.

Ingredients
1 16oz bag of dry Lima beans
2-3 ham hocks
8 cups of broth
1 bay leaf
3 garlic cloves minced
1 onion diced
Bell pepper diced
2 stalks celery diced
1 14.5 oz can of fire roasted tomatoes
1 16oz pack of sausage
1 jalapeño, deseeded (optional)
Directions
Place Ham hocks on pot cover with 8 cups of water let cook for 1 1/2 hours. Next cook sausage until brown and remove add in the onions celery and bell peppers mix for about 7 minutes scraping the bottom to remove brown bits add in the garlic bay leaf and jalapeño cook for 1 minute and add in beans fire roasted tomatoes ham hocks and sausage to pot cover with the stock from the ham hocks and additional water or broth as needed bring pot to a boil and reduce to a simmer and allow the beans to cook and get tender to your liking about 2 hours. Stirring occasionally throughout the cooking process. Blessings

RECIPE:

Add enough stock to cover hocks
Simmer for 2 hours or until tender

How to make lima beans with ham hocks
Place 3 smoked ham hocks in a pot. Fill the pot up with water and place it over medium heat.
Cover pot with a top and allow the hocks to simmer over medium heat for 2 1/2 hours. Add more water if it dissolves
Chop up 2 stalks of celery, 1/2 green pepper, and 1 onion into very small pieces
Place your bag of lima beans in a big bowl.
Remove the cracked and rotten beans if any
Rinse the beans with water
After 2 1/2 hours once hocks are tender add beans to pot
Add chopped vegetables
Season with 2 bouillon cubes, 1 tsp of seasoning salt, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of sugar, 1 tsp of parsley flakes,1 big tsp of butter and 1/2 tsp of thyme
Stir in well and allow them to cook until beans are tender and creates a nice gravy
Once done serve over white rice
