A SUCCESS!! MAKING PIE CRUSTS USING MY MOM'S RECIPE, SPECIAL MEMORIES, INSPIRATIONAL GOLDEN THOUIGHT
The base to all great pies is the pie crust. My mom was complimented quite often for her pie crusts, so I was determined to master making great pie crusts using her recipe. I've been very pleased with the results I've had. I enjoy using the same rolling pin that mom did that has its own special sound. Whenever we heard this sound we knew Mom was making something yummy.
Memories can be created in many ways and one thing my mom did was to give her grandchildren some pie dough. They could make their own pie or whatever they wanted. I recall various items they made including a bird nest with eggs.
These pie crusts can be frozen unbaked. It is so convenient to pull out a pie crust from the freezer - thaw it and it's ready for baking. If the pie crust is baked separately from the filling you'll want to prick the sides and the bottom of the pie crust with a fork before baking.
Pie Crust Recipe
6 cup All Purpose Flour 2 cup Crisco
2 Eggs, slightly beaten 2 Tablespoon Vinegar
3/4 cup Water 2 teaspoon Salt
Mix flour, salt and crisco thoroughly.
Add eggs, vinegar and water.
Mix till combined, do not over mix.
Bake pie crust at 400 for 10 minutes

The Golden Thought of Inspiration -
We always like to include Buddy with the Golden Thought of Inspiration. He has always been a special part of our family and we count it a blessing that we can care for him. Buddy was very active earlier in life but the years of battling epilepsy and getting older have taken a real toll on him.
The Golden Thought of Inspiration today is -
Today's little moments become tomorrow's precious memories.
How true this is, if we can keep this in mind when we are in the middle of daily life doing what we need to do with life happening around us. Sometimes the things we do will become a great memory. We have so many memories of being in the kitchen with mom and making the pie crusts today brought a flood of memories back.
I never had children because I am single, but I do know I have some sweet memories of Buddy helping me even though it would have been faster to just do it. So as a busy mother with young children, yes, it may take longer to do something, but I encourage you to take time to have the children involved in the daily things of life. By doing this they learn, plus the memories created will be someone's treasure. Mom was one that loved the kitchen, feeding people was a love language of hers, the enjoyment she got from watching folks have good fellowship while enjoying her food. Being in the kitchen with her is a treasured memory.
So remember -
Today's little moments become tomorrow's precious memories.

Mom's apple pie has always been loved by the family, but this year we set out to make improvements to the dough. She added shortening and lard along with butter to the mix and I added vodka to help create a super flakey and flavorful crust that makes Mom's apple pie, even better.
