How To Make Fried Pickles (Crispy and Delicious)
Fried pickles recipe. This is one of my favorite appetizers! I love to dip mine in some ranch (or ketchup sometimes). They’re perfect for eating while watching a ball game, or serving to your friends and family for a snack or appetizer.
I used Claussen pickles, but you use your favorite brand. This recipe is simple, but produces a crispy fried pickle that you will love!

1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp dry ranch dressing mix
1/2 tsp cayenne powder
3 eggs
2 cups Panko bread crumbs (See Note 1)
12 dill pickle spears (See Note 2)
Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup Ranch Dressing (See Note 3)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Lemon Pepper Seasoning (See Note 4)
Instructions
Heat oil to 375°F in deep fryer or deep sided cast iron skillet.
In a shallow bowl, stir together flour, Ranch dressing mix and cayenne powder.
In another shallow bowl, beat eggs.
In third shallow bowl, place Panko bread crumbs.
Roll each pickle spear in flour mixture, then into egg using one hand, shaking off excess. Dip back into flour mixture for a second time, then into egg a second time. Coat pickle spear with bread crumbs, pressing with other hand to adhere. Set aside on plate and repeat with remaining pickle spears.
Fry in hot oil 2 to 3 minutes, turning once, or until golden brown. Drain fried pickles on cooling rack or paper towels.
Combine dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
Serve fried pickles with dipping sauce.
Notes
I used 1 cup Panko and 1 cup Sourdough breadcrumbs in the video due to #StayAtHome Corona Virus lockdown, but feel free to use 2 cups of Panko if you prefer. ????
I typically find Vlasic Dill Pickle Spears to hold up well and stay crisp and firm.
I make my own Buttermilk Ranch Dressing.
I make my own Lemon Pepper Seasoning.

Buttermilk Substitute:
Strainer (Affiliate Link):
Ingredients
Vegetable oil for frying
1 cup all purpose flour 125g
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
½ cup buttermilk
1 large egg
3 kosher dill pickles cut into slices just shy of ¼” thick and lightly patted dry*
Dipping Sauce (optional, plain old Ranch dressing also works great for dipping!)
2 Tablespoons Ranch dressing
1 Tablespoon BBQ sauce
1 teaspoon ketchup
1 teaspoon mayonnaise
Dash tabasco sauce
Dash of ground black pepper
Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:22 Fill a Dutch oven or large saucepan 2-3 deep with oil for frying. Fix a candy thermometer to the edge (make sure it is in the oil but not touching the bottom of the pan) and set your heat to medium. Oil will need to reach 375F (190C) before you can begin frying, but this will take 10 minutes or so.
01:39 Meanwhile, prepare your breading mixture by whisking together flour, salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.
02:02 In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
Once oil has reached 375F (190C), prepare pickles for frying in batches of 3-4 slices.
02:46 Coat slices in flour mixture, gently shake off excess, dredge in buttermilk/egg mixture, then coat with flour mixture again.
03:17 Transfer (carefully!) to oil and fry 3-4 pickle slices at a time for 90 seconds on each side or until golden brown.
Use a slotted spoon or strainer to remove from oil and transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Make sure oil returns to 375F (190C) before frying your next batch of pickles.
Fried pickles are best enjoyed warm. If desired, serve with dipping sauce, which can be made by stirring together dipping sauce ingredients until combined.

These fried pickles are going to be gorgeously golden, extra crispy, and even though we’re ditching the deep fry, we do certainly not ditch any of the flavor. This is all thanks to my special spice blend, and the perfect temp and cook time combo!
These air fryer fried pickle chips are above and beyond, and in today's video, I'll be showing you how to perfect them! They come together super quick and easy, and it all starts with some sliced pickles and a dredging station.
Here's what you'll need:
1 (24-ounce) jar sliced pickles
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons Kosher salt, separated
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
2 large eggs
3 cups panko breadcrumbs
nonstick cooking spray (Avocado, canola, or vegetable oil preferably in an aerosol can), about 2 tablespoons
1. Set Up the Dredging Station - Have ready three shallow bowls or trays for a dredging station. In the first tray, whisk together the flour, 1 teaspoon salt, garlic powder, paprika, and mustard powder. In the second tray, whisk together the eggs with 2 tablespoons of water. In the third tray, mix together the panko breadcrumbs and 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
2. Dredge the Pickles - Fully coat each pickle in the seasoned flour and shake off the excess. Submerge in the egg mixture, allow excess to drip off, and then transfer to the tray of panko. Coat thoroughly with the panko, applying gentle pressure as needed to ensure the coating adheres. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet.
3. Spray With Cooking Spray - Once you have all of the pickles coated, transfer them to a large, rimmed baking sheet and mist the tops and sides with the nonstick cooking spray. Flip the pickles, and mist the other side.
5. Air Fry - Add a single layer of pickles to the basket of the air fryer and cook at 400°F for 5-6 minutes. Remove the Air Fried Pickles, and repeat with the remaining pickles.
