Gingerbread Recipe: How to Make Easy Gingerbread Cookies | THE FOOD-DEE BASICS
This is the Gingerbread Cookie That started it all. I used to make this cookie with my Grandmother every Christmas and it's what sent me down the path to become the Food-dee!
Gingerbread Recipe: How to Make Easy Gingerbread Cookies
1 cup Butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup Fancy Molasses
2 tbsp of vanilla paste
1/3 cup milk
5 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp clove
1 tsp baking soda
Alright Food-dees
Let's Start by adding our 5 cups of flour to a mixing bowl
and adding in our 2tsp Cinnamon, 2 tsp ground ginger, 1/4 tsp clove, 1 tsp salt,1 tsp baking soda.
Then using a whisk mix everything together
place your bowl aside and let's start on our wet ingredients.
To a stand mixer add in 1 cup of butter and 3/4 cup of sugar and cream until combined
crack in 2 whole eggs and mix for 1 min
Add in 1/3 Cup of Milk and
then we will add in 1 cup of fancy molasses
mix and add in 2 tbsp of vanilla paste
now slowly add in your flour mixture while the mixer is on low
once the flour starts to combine you can increase the mixer to a medium speed. Mix until everything is combined
place the dough into a lightly floured bowl and cover and keep in the refrigerator for 24 hours or at least 4 hours. as we need the dough to firm up to roll it out ( note too much flour will show up on your final baked cookie )
This is best done on a flat surface that is lightly floured like a granite countertop. but I need to show you so I am using a cutting board which makes it easier to stick to.
taking half of your dough place it out and with a lightly floured rolling pin start rolling out your dough
you are looking for it to be rolled to about 1/4 inch thick dough as this will make the cookies softer and cake-like. If you like a crisper cookie roll it thinner.
now that the dough is rolled out using your favorite cookie cutter cut your dough and carefully lift and place it onto a lined baking sheet.
Place into a 375-degree oven for 12-15 mins until golden brown
You can decorate these but I like them plain with a cup of tea or like Santa a giant glass of milk !!!
