3 ounces unsweetened chocolate -- melted
-or- 9 tbls. cocoa 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
1 cup sugar
2 cups unbleached flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Prehead oven to 350. Spray Pam on a 7 x 12" baking dish. Combine ingredients in the order they appear. Stir well. Spread the batter inthe pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until top springs back in the center when lightly pressed.
[I did not have unsweetened applesauce, so used sweetened one, but omitted the sugar. I also changed the flour, to one cup flour and one whole wheat. What came out was great. The next time I will make one other change, instead of unsweetened chocolate I will try it with cocoa. It is three tablespoons per ounce. Jenka Guevara]

Vegan organic chocolate applesauce cake
Here is how to make a Vegan organic chocolate applesauce cake, with ingredients below. I double the recipe, freeze half for later, bake the other half. And I use coconut oil to grease the pans. Whole spices that you grind taste better.
Ingredients:
3 bananas mashed well
1/3 cup apple sauce
2 cuts of gluten-free oats
1/4 cup almond milk (or coconut, cashew, rice, oat. You can also use coconut yogurt. I've even mixed some protein powder with water when I was out of all of the above!)
Lots of chocolate nibs and/or chips (raisins, walnuts, frozen blueberries are also all good)
Vanilla extract
Cinnamon
Ginger
Cloves, Allspice, Nutmeg : I like to ground these spices myself as they taste better than powder form
Spread vegan marshmallows on top to create a melted, gooey frosting!
Bake at 350 for around 25 minutes.
