How To make Budget: Spicy Orange Pork Ribs
3 lb Pork side ribs
1 Onion, chopped
1 Bay leaf
SAUCE:
1 c Orange juice
3 tb Liquid honey
1 tb Soy sauce
1 tb Fresh gingerroot, minced
1 ts Five-spice powder
1 Garlic clove, minced
Side ribs are cheaper than back ribs - there is lots of bone, but you can still get nice portions of meat. Five-spice powder, available in Chinese grocery stores and supermarkets, is a mixture of cinnamon, fennel, cloves, star anise, and black pepper. Cut ribs into small sections; trim fat. in large saucepan, cover ribs with cold water. Add onion and bay leaf. Bring to boil; simmer for 35-40 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain, discarding onion and bay leaf. Sauce: Meanwhile, in small saucepan, combine juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, five-spice powder and garlic. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Arrange ribs in single layer in 13x9-inch baking dish. Spoon sauce over top. Bake in 350F 180C oven, turning twice and basting occasionally, for 30-35 minutes or until ribs are glazed and sauce is thickened and sticky.

INGREDIENTS:
1 kilo pork belly (liempo)
1 cup Sprite (or any lemon soda)
⅓ cup soy sauce
¼ cup calamansi juice
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
⅓ cup banana ketchup
1 bulb garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
Directions:
Wash and prepare the pork belly slices. Transfer them to a large container. Add the lemon soda, soy sauce, oyster sauce, calamansi juice, minced garlic, banana ketchup, ground black pepper and brown sugar (optional). Mix well using your hands until well combined. Cover the container and let them marinate for at least 1 hour.
Heat a pan using medium heat. Arrange the marinated pork in the pan and sear them for a few minutes. Flip them to sear the other side. Flip them a few times until both sides are browned and sizzling.
Pour the marinade in the pan and let them cook until the marinade is reduced and almost dried up. Flip occasionally to cook them evenly. Once they are caramel brown in color, they are ready.
Remove them from the pan and transfer to a chopping board. Slice them into serving pieces and then transfer to a serving plate. Enjoy this with some special toyomansi dipping sauce as an ulam or pulutan. Yum!
Country ribs budget friendly dinner! #shorts
This oven baked country style pork ribs recipe uses an inexpensive cut of meat which makes this meal really budget friendly. Follow my tips for perfectly tender juicy fall-off-the-bone meat. For hundreds more recipes visit my website:
Here's a few things you'll want to know about the recipe!
What cut of meat is country style ribs?
Your butcher slices these ribs from the pork butt which is not actually from the rear of the pig. It’s from the pork shoulder, high on the foreleg, and much meatier than regular pork or beef ribs. They’ll leave fat on the ribs that helps add moisture to an otherwise dry cut of meat.
I use Primal Kitchen unsweetened barbecue sauce. In the photo on the thumbnail I have the golden sauce. In the video, I used the classic sauce. They’re both good.
If you like hot sauce, go for Texas Pete. It also has no sugar. Yum.
For the juiciest meat, the most important tip that I can give you is to brine them. Soak the meat in salt water overnight. This traps the moisture in the meat. Rinse the salt water off and pat dry when finished brining. You’ll be left with tenderized, juicy pork.
Low and slow cooking results in a really tender, super juicy, incredibly flavorful meat. And, of course, the recipe is ridiculously easy.
