[Full Webinar Recording] 5 Pork Supply Chain Disrupters in a Post-COVID World
Dr. Jayson Lusk, Purdue University, was the featured speaker during the May webinar for pork producers. Lusk outlined five supply chain disruptions for the pork industry in a post-COVID-19 world.
According to Lusk, these disrupters could impact the pork industry in the next three to five years.
1. Ag and Food Tech Innovation [3:13]
• Consumers are shifting from being focused on food security to a greater interest in sustainability and food quality.
• Venture capital investment in food and agriculture startups remains strong, even despite the pandemic.
• Productivity/innovation is the cornerstone of sustainability. Fewer, more efficient animals mean less greenhouse gas emissions, less land use, resulting in reduced environmental impact.
2. Policy Impact on Meat Demand [19:32]
• Meat production and meat consumption have become a topic of discussion with many consumers.
• Producers need to be prepared for increased criticisms of animal agriculture and think strategically to move beyond the criticism.
3. Inflationary Pressures [31:23]
• The current inflation rate is about 4%. The question is, is this a temporary blip in inflation rates, or is it here to stay.
• During most recessions, personal savings rates remain low, but consumers have been increasing their savings recent months.
4. International Trade and World Population Growth [39:02]
• Export markets continue to rise as a percentage of production steadily. It is nearing 30% through the first quarter of 2021.
• The slow, steady population growth we have expected over the past may not happen.
• Population projections have plateaued in middle- and high-income countries and increased in low-income countries.
5. Food System Realignments [43:00]
• Forward and backward integration in the food industry continues to grow.
• Increasing pressure to prove sustainability claims will continue to drive food system realignments.
Lost Hartford: Before the Phoenix Mutual Boat Building
This video focuses on lost buildings in the area of Hartford, Connecticut where the Phoenix Boat building was erected in 1963 and the adjacent Hartford Steam Boiler building in 1932 and 1965. Buildings that used to be here include the American Hotel, Parsons Theatre, the old headquarters of Travelers Insurance, the Hartford Street Railway trolley barns, Hartford’s first variety theater and a building where two notorious bandits were captured in 1903 and the liquor police raided during Prohibition. I also talk about buildings on the south side of the former Grove Street, including a lost house built for Silas Deane and the famed Chicken Man’s poultry shop.

STRANGE CONNECTIONS (The Paranormal and UFOs) - Race Hobbs
SHIFTING THE PARADIGM PLAYLIST -
For decades the topics of the Paranormal and UFOs have always been seen as two distinct areas of phenomena, unrelated and independent. In recent years that has changed dramatically. Many locations have been identified around the world where there is a convergence of many topics that fall under the umbrella of 'Fringe Phenomena', such as UFO activity, Cryptid sightings, encounters with Shadow People, Aliens, Bigfoot, and even demons.
In this Episode, Cristina Gomez talks with Race Hobbs about the convergence, and how it is being played out across the spectrum of programming on KUNX Paranormal Talk Radio.
Race Hobbs is The Head of Programming for KUNX broadcasting talk radio. He has been in the radio field for nearly 30 years with more than a decade doing programming talk radio.
He brings his years of terrestrial radio experience to the digital broadcasting revolution and is one of the first personalities to start live remotes from UFO and paranormal events around the country, making appearances to meet listeners and broadcast live radio.
He loves to be able to bring his two passions under one medium - radio and UFOs. and he states - “I continue to look forward to the day we all know the truth about what has clearly been invading the air space over our cities and towns, our military installations, and countryside with absolute impunity. One thing is for certain, UFOs have been here, UFOs are here, and everyday citizens from every walk of life are seeing them.”
